New Maruti Dzire

The picture released by Autocar clearly indicates that the new Dzire looks much alike the new Swift, the same way the current models resemble each other. The swept-back headlights and tail lamps, the two prominent features of the 2011 Swift, are carbon-copied to the Dzire as well.

However, the most significant and interesting piece of information the spied picture gives out is that the new Dzire has gone under the knife and now falls under the sub-4 meters category. At a length of less than four metres and engine capacities under 1.2 and 1.5 litres for petrol and diesel, respectively, the car would enjoy benefits of a low excise duty of just 10%, as opposed to 22% on bigger cars, says Autocar. This will translate into cost benefit of around Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 to the customer.

Now, please don't ask me about the launch date of the new Dzire. Considering the uncertainty over the new Swift launch, there's no chance of us seeing it any time before the 2012 Auto Expo.

Ford Fiesta ST (2012)

Nobody's sure yet, but the 1.6 EcoBoost develops 180bhp in maximum spec already, and that kind of output would place the Fiesta ST slap bang into warm to hot hatch territory.

Ford's new pocket rocket will stick with front-wheel drive, but our new spy shots reveal a gaping front grille with fly-dicing grille, a deeper chin spoiler, front foglamps, twin tailpipes, a perforated rooftop spoiler and a prominent rear diffuser. The cage on this example will not be fitted to roadgoing cars.

The chassis will be given a thorough makeover. Discount those test-hack alloy wheels, but the low-profile rubber they wear will be available on the Fiesta ST, boosting grip and traction. The ride height is lowered, and Ford's go-faster division led by Jost Capito are fettling damper and spring rates.

Spy Shots of Audi R8 GT

The R8 GT Spyder is to be unveiled at the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race in June prior to the official world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

The vehicle will be powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 engine that is expected to deliver around 560 hp and 398 lb.-ft. of torque. Top speed is touted to be 193 mph and time taken to go from 0 to 60 mph will be around 3.6 seconds. Further, a modified version of Audi’s six-speed R-tronic robotized manual transmission and a viscous coupling will provide a 15 per cent front/85 per cent rear torque split as standard.

Features of the Audi R8 GT Spyder include standard-fit ceramic brakes, manually adjustable coilover suspension, a front splitter as well as carbon fiber ‘winglets’ on the corners of the front bumper. Also the vehicle gets carbonfibre-reinforced plastics parts including the rear deck, side blades, bumpers and big rear wing.

Incidentally, the R8 GT Spyder is lighter by 95 kg owing to a new carbon fiber liftback, fixed rear wing, modified brake calipers, reduced engine-bay sound deadening as well as a lighter windscreen made from thinner glass. As for the interior, features include unique R8 GT instrument graphics, a newly designed shift lever, use of Alcantara for panels and unique door sills.

Spyshots - 2012 MINI Coupe

Click to enlarge [Spyshots: 2012 MINI Coupe - pic 2]

The camo is concentrated mainly on the rear upper body area, so we suspect MINI is trying to hide the taller dimensions of the greenhouse and steeper windshield compared to the concept.

The 2012 Mini Coupe uses the BMW Group’s standard psychedelic camo, but it wasn't able to hide a new retractable spoiler nestled within the trunk – something that wasn't fitted to concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. The upright windshield that has been part of the Mini look from day one is finally swept back and a truncated roof covers the remaining two seats.
